About the Therapist
Bethan is a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist and has worked both in Child Development Centres assessing and diagnosing children with speech and language impairments, including Autism, as well as in special schools and nurseries providing therapy for children with speech, language and communication needs.
- Bethan currently works as a Communication and Language Consultant for Achieving for Children, part of the Early Years SEN Team for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
- Bethan worked for the NHS for over 12 years in Leicester, Sheffield, Hammersmith & Fulham and as a team leader within Ealing for Northwest London NHS Trust
- She has worked with children with speech and language delay and disorder, children with Autism, and children with a range of special needs including cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome
- Having worked for Child Development Centres providing assessment and diagnosis of children with communication disorders including Autism and Specific Language Impairment, Bethan is able to assess children’s difficulties and provide therapy to help them develop their communication skills
- Bethan is registered with the Health Care Professions Council, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice
- Bethan is involved in the local community, and is a Parent Governor at Cookham Rise Primary School
Bethan is trained in a wide range of therapy techniques including some of those listed below:
- Picture Exchange Communication System(PECS), a picture system used to help develop the communication skills of children with Autism
- Makaton Signing, a signing system that is used to help children with communication difficulties
- Attention Autism Training by Gina Davies, a fun and motivational way of engaging children with Autism and inspiring them to communicate
- Palin PCI Approach, a therapy approach which focuses on the psychological side of stammering
- Hanen, It Takes Two to Talk, a programme for developing communication skills for children with delayed language development
